​Make A Difference

Positive Strides relies on the dedication of volunteers to support its programs and community outreach. Their involvement takes many forms—from providing hands-on assistance during sessions, to representing the organization at local events, to planning and executing fundraising initiatives. The continued growth and success of Positive Strides would not be possible without their invaluable support. Please consider joining us!

Volunteers Needed

​We are looking for a diverse group of volunteers who are dependable and good-natured. Training is provided. No prior experience is required. Minimum age is 14 years old.
  • Horse Leader: Responsible for the care of the horse before, during and after the session. This includes grooming, tacking and warming up. Horse leaders help ensure the safety of the horse and rider during lessons.
  • Side-walker: Responsible for the safety of the rider. Walks beside the horse in lessons and offers physical and emotional support to the rider. Side walkers help riders reach their lesson goals.
  • Reception Area Resource Person: Greets riders, monitors sign-in, helps fit riders with helmets, boots and belts, and keeps the area tidy. 
  • Horse Resource:   Assists Horse Leaders/Side-walkers by identifying which horses are needed for the lesson, tacks/untacks/bridles the horses, adjust stirrup lengths for next rider, brings horses to mounting area or returns them to stall as needed​
  • Special Events Volunteer: Serves on event committees and assists with fundraising and community outreach events.
  • Special Skills Volunteer: Provides expertise in photography, computer, grant writing, marketing, public relations, etc.

Join Our Youth Program

Today’s youth participate in community service for a variety of reasons: school requirements, club participation, college resume building and a simple desire to do good in the community. There are numerous benefits for youth to volunteer at Positive Strides:

  • Meet and work with riders and other volunteers.
  • Understand the needs of others, particularly concerning people with physical, cognitive and emotional needs.
  • Participate in meaningful work resulting in a sense of accomplishment.
  • Learn new skills and gain confidence.
  • Improve your own life and the lives of others in practical and long-lasting ways.
  • Have fun in a way you may not have thought possible.

Session Hours

Volunteers select the day and time period, morning or afternoon, which best fits their schedule.  Sessions typically run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at:
